2013 Product Release Update: eXtender Enterprise

Our team has been working overtime to release eXtender Enterprise for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013. Although we were hoping to release it by June 1st, it looks like we need to take a bit more time to ensure all our customers receive a solid build. We are now looking to release in a few weeks and are doing everything possible to get the build out to our base as quickly as we can. Please accept our apologies on the delay. We will have a great solution for you very shortly!

Extender 2013 Feature of the Day: Detail Grids

What are Detail Grids?

In previous Extender releases, there were Resources called Detail Windows and Detail Forms.  In Extender 2013, these resources have been combined into the Windows and Forms resources.

With Extender 2013, the detail grid option will combine the Windows and Detail Windows as well as the Forms and Detail Forms together.  By doing this, you can header and detail information together on a Windows.  This was available on Detail Forms previously, but not on Windows.  You can have up to 15 header fields as well as up to 10 detail fields on the same window or form.


If you will be updating data from a previous Extender release to Extender 2013, all existing setups from the Detail Windows and Detail Forms will be as Windows and Forms utilizing the Scrolling Grid Option and the data will be linked to the new Window or Form.

Extender 2013 Feature of the Day: Extender Table Changes

What table changes were made?

With all the new features that have been added to Extender 2013, the Extender tables had to change.  Many of the tables are new with Extender 2013.  While theory behind many of them are the same as previous releases of Extender, the actual SQL name of the tables are different as well as the structure of them is a little different. 

With Extender 2010, most data records were tracked based on 3 fields, PT_Window_ID, PT_UD_Key, and PT_UD_Number.  With Extender 2013, it is a little easier to track the data as it is based on two fields, Extender_Record_ID and Field_ID.  Each resource you create in Extender will get a Record_ID attached to it and then the fields on that resource have a Field_ID attached to them. 

With this, the data will no longer be linked based on the Key Fields setup on the resource.  If the Keys need to be changed, they can be without affecting the data that has been entered into the system.

Resources at your fingertips


My husband and I recently made a cross county move to Texas. While determining what part of the city (Austin) to settle in, we decided to rent an apartment until we get know the area a bit more and found a great little place in a nice gated community. When we signed our lease we received two remote controls to unlock the gates when we drive in or out of our complex. We were also given all the “need to know” info about working with maintenance, pool hours, gym hours, etc. One thing we weren’t given, however, was the code combination to the gate along a small walking path that leads to our mailbox. I can’t tell you how many times I went in and out of the little walking gate to check the mail, forgot all about the fact that I didn’t have the code yet and walked all the way around to the “driving gate” to get back to my building. I’m either patient or stubborn because it took a number of times walking around the “long way” before I decided to talk with the folks “in the know” to get the combo for the gate to the walking path. A quick 30 second conversation later and I was off, never having to take the “long way” around again.

We often have resources available to us that we may not know about or quite frankly, take time to check into, so we decide to take the “long way” around.  A great resource we have available for partners and customers is the eOne Knowledge Base section of our website. Our support team takes time each week to create free articles that provide you with information on errors, how-to’s, short cuts, etc. and post those to the Knowledge Base section of our website. These articles give you the ability to cut out taking the “long way” around an issue you may come up against. They provide you with just the right resources at just the right time.

If you haven’t done so yet, I would encourage you to take advantage of the resources that are out there for you. We’ve greatly improved the search capability of the Knowledge Base section and have added a ton of new reference articles. (If you’re a Node Builder user, take a look at the new install guide just released today). Follow this path and you’ll be all set:

Extender 2013 Feature of the Day: Changes to Views

What has changed in the Views?

With Extender Enterprise, previously, when an Extender Window or Form had multiple Key Fields, the Key would be concatenated into one field and it could not be included into the View as two different fields.  With the Microsoft Extender for GP 2010, the key field was separated into 2 fields for the View. 

With Extender 2013, all Views will show the Key Fields individually and will not concatenate them together any longer.

GP with SmartConnect is the best.

Sometimes you start to question how good you and your products really are? Do people really care and do they make peoples and businesses lives easier?

I have a friend (colleague) who has worked extensively with Dynamics GP with SmartConnect.  He recently took a job which sees him working with another cloud based ERP product - NetSuite.  The first project he had with that solution was the need for some reasonably complex integration work. 

He spoke with the professional services team of the NetSuite provider to request a quotation and it came back at a minimum of 150hrs services. He was astonished when he called me and said that he knew for a fact that he could knock it off in less than 40hours if he was working with GP and SmartConnect.

Extender 2013 Feature of the Day: Trigger Points for Actions


The Actions that will be available in Extender 2013 can be called using several different events on a Window, Form, or the Shared Actions, including the following:

·         Open Form
·         Close Form
·         Open Window
·         Close Window
·         Enter Field
·         Change Field
·         Exit Field
·         Save Table
·         Delete Table
·         Shared Actions

Depending on where the Action is being setup and if Extender Standard or Enterprise is being used, the Event Types available may differ.

What these trigger points will allow you to do is run an action when the trigger point is met.  So for example, you could have an Extender Window open as soon as a specific GP window is opened.
